How God Turned This Wretch into a Treasure: part three

When that long-expected knock on the door never came, I had to accept that either God was a total liar — or I didn’t know Him at all.

By God’s grace, I knew He was real, and right, and true. There was no way I could entertain that He was a liar. I was forced to conclude that I had no idea who this Being was who commanded my destiny.

In all my years of learning, the church had lied to me about who God is and what He requires. Everything I had ever learned about the Almighty was instantly suspect. Was the doctrine of the Trinity true? Was Jesus really God? How does God communicate with His children? Who can I trust to give me the truth?

But a message written on my heart by God Himself instructed me: Go to the source of truth. Obviously, I didn’t have the truth within me. Look how my foolish heart had led me astray to think that I could manipulate God to do my bidding at my whim. Continue reading “How God Turned This Wretch into a Treasure: part three”

How God Turned This Wretch into a Treasure: part two

When I was three months pregnant with my first and only child, the father broke up with me, suggesting I have an abortion.

You’d think I’d have been happy since I couldn’t stand the guy and treated him worse than dirt.

But my crooked little heart surprised me.

There was no way that I was going to kill the life growing inside me; I was on board with Madonna and was “gonna keep my baby.”

Though I was dumped and devastated — I would still bring a new life into the world. Little did I know that the new life growing in me would also be the beginning of my new life in Christ. But this wouldn’t happen easily. I had a heart shaped block of cement in my chest. But God knew exactly how to break it up so he could give me a new one.

The devastating reality of single motherhood brought about an amazing transformation in my life toward the baby’s father. I was instantly “in love” again. Oh! how easily the forbidden things create longing in the heart. What lengths I would go to get him back. I did not want to have a baby out of wedlock, be a single mother. [The irony is that I was  living my life in such a way that promoted the very thing I did not want. This is part of the deception of sin.] Continue reading “How God Turned This Wretch into a Treasure: part two”

How God Turned This Wretch into a Treasure: part one

My parents brought me into the world shortly after the “sexual revolution.” And they were very much a part of the culture, drinking lots of alcohol and popping bennies — the amphetamines of the day. In that epoch, it wasn’t unpopular for pregnant women to drink alcohol, so I was dosed on wine from the womb.

But something happened after my fourth birthday. My parents decided to get “religion.” So they had us kids baptized in the Lutheran church. Someone at that time must have told me about Jesus, because I remember kneeling by my bed and asking Him to come into my heart.

A year later, we painted the house, packed up our belongings, and headed out of the big city of Simi Valley to small town, USA.

There we joined a little white Methodist church with a steeple bell that rang each Sunday to announce the service. When I came of age, I pulled the rope and sounded the gong myself: a great memory.

Other fond memories of that time still bring a smile to my face: great friends; fellowship; food; Sunday school; Kids of the Kingdom; vacation Bible school; ice cream socials; the invasion of box-elder bugs; and more. But something else happened in that church, something that almost destroyed me: I was raped. Continue reading “How God Turned This Wretch into a Treasure: part one”

Is Your Pain Caused by Statins?

Is your pain caused by statins?

The following story is the true testimony of a woman who took Lipitor (a drug designed to lower “bad” cholesterol) for 25 years. At first the statin drug had no ill affect on her health and successfully kept her cholesterol in check. But something drastically changed, and her pain caused by statins became so severe, she could not lift her beloved Schipperke. After doing some research, she concluded that the years on Lipitor depleted her body of CoQ10, resulting in chronic pain.

A Woman’s Testimony of Pain Caused by Statins.

The author has asked to remain anonymous. This is her story of statin induced pain. Continue reading “Is Your Pain Caused by Statins?”

Progress Report: Sometimes You Just Need A Good Steak

A Good Steak

Success!

I am pleased to announce that the lump in my breast has nearly vanished. There is only a small trace remaining. It took some serious searching into my diet and life-style to resolve the issue (and a lot of prayer). And in the end, it turned out that I just needed a good steak. Well, it is a bit more complicated than that. Let me catch you up to speed.

How it All Started.

We recently moved into an apartment with high levels of EMFs. Safe levels are considered to be under 3 milligauss, zero being the optimal level. Our apartment was reading up to 10-25 milligauss in our sleeping area and 4-10 in our living area. Of course, I didn’t realize this when we first moved in.

But it wasn’t long before I was suffering from a terrible case of insomnia, with a feeling in my brain that I can only explain as “crazy brain.” I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling super stressed out, with pressure in my brain that just made me feel nervous and crazy. The next thing that happened was my pinky finger broke out in a major case of cellulitis. Thankfully it didn’t spread past my finger and I was able to manage it with oils, soakings, and bandaids. But it would not clear up completely. It would begin to clear up, then ooze open again. But the event that finally sparked my diligent searching into the matter was discovering a lump in my breast the size of a silly putty egg.

The Culprit.

Finding the lump prompted me to consider the 21 electric meters outside my bedroom window. (Why didn’t I notice them when I moved in?) Continue reading “Progress Report: Sometimes You Just Need A Good Steak”

Progress Report on Weight Loss and Health for November

November Progress ReportI ordinarily share my weight loss journal the first of each new month, but I’m doing things a little different for November. And I am a little late in checking in.

Due to some health issues (which I have written about), I have stopped trying to lose weight. All my effort for counting calories left my body deficient in some important nutrients. I am still tracking my weight and calories, but it is NOT my focus. My focus is NUTRITION.

If you thought counting calories was daunting, try tracking nutrition. It is like a full time job. But I am having some great wins.

As you may remember, we recently moved to a new apartment due to extremely high electromagnetic fields (EMFs). I discovered the high EMFs after developing a lump in my breast and suffering a relentless case of insomnia. Evidence shows that EMFs can cause or exacerbate both conditions.

Our new apartment has much lower, safe readings. I expected that immediately upon moving I would see a significant reversal in my symptoms. Unfortunately that was not the case. Continue reading “Progress Report on Weight Loss and Health for November”

October Weight Loss Journal

October Weight Loss Journal: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

This month has been the first month that I have not finished lower than I started. On October 1st, I weighed in at 149 and on October 31st, I weighed in at 149.8. There were some 147’s in the mix as well as one 152.

But I am not discouraged, nor have I stopped trying to take off the last five pounds of my weight. So today I am going to share the good, the bad, and the ugly about this month in weight loss.

Honey Mints.

It is rare that I share a product that is not organic. But Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Honey Mints get high marks on my health meter.

I recently visited a health food store that was giving away some candy. The cashier said the mints were not very good. I asked her why she didn’t like them. Her reason was because they were made of honey.

I love honey — in fact it is a God approved sweetener. So I gave the treat a try. It was delicious, reminding me of a Peppermint Patty. Unfortunately, I did not learn the brand of the candy, nor was the store going carry them. But when I learned that Trader Joe’s was carrying Dark Chocolate Honey Mints with “Just Three Ingredients,” I had to give them a try — even though they were not organic.

The Top Two Reasons You Want to Lose Weight (Survey Results)

Thank You Card

Thank You!

I recently shared a request for feedback concerning my upcoming weight loss and diet book. You can read the post here: Will You Please Help Me Out With A Short Survey?

I am so grateful and amazed by all the thoughtful responses I received. It has helped me out so much. I know now that I must add several chapters to address all the information that is important to my readers. If you have not had a chance to share what is important to you, the survey is still open. I welcome as many responses as possible. Take Survey Now!

The one thing that surprised me the most (though I don’t know why) was the number one reason my readers (and those who responded) want to lose weight.

I was sure the top motivator for weight loss was to feel more attractive. I couldn’t have been more wrong (though it did rank #3).

I was also surprised by the number two reason you all are motivated to lose weight.

Weight Loss Motivators.

There were 7 possible answers for the question: “What are your primary motivators to lose weight (check all that apply)?” Here is how YOU ranked them.  Continue reading “The Top Two Reasons You Want to Lose Weight (Survey Results)”
