October Weight Loss Journal: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

October Weight Loss JournalWell it is that time of the month again to share my weight loss progress. I began my weight loss journey in January of this year — not as a New Year’s resolution —  I just realized 185 pounds was not a good (or attractive) weight for me. This month has been the first month that I have not finished lower than I started. On October 1st, I weighed in at 149 and on October 31st, I weighed in at 149.8. There were some 147’s in the mix as well as one 152.

But I am not discouraged, nor have I stopped trying to take off the last five pounds of my weight. So today I am going to share the good, the bad, and the ugly about this month in weight loss.

The Good.

I shared in my last weight loss journal for September that we were going to move to another apartment due to high EMF readings in our apartment that I suspected were aggravating some health concerns. That with the upcoming elections reminded us that we had not updated our license since the previous move. The last time we had updated our licenses, my weight was 180 pounds.

When we went to the DMV, I got to change the weight on my license to 150 pounds. That felt really good! And it made me realize what I had actually accomplished.

What a great reminder! 30 pounds lighter on record.

And more good news is that I am not going to stop until I reach my goal of 145. That is unless my body persuades me that 145 is too low for me. Since I have been gaining muscle at the gym and burning more energy in my job, I notice my body also needs more energy to sustain it. So I am still learning to balance all of this.

The Bad.

The bad news is that I have had a hard time being faithful to my goals. This is in part due to moving and working. I wish I could say that I have been 100% faithful and it just wasn’t working any longer. But that is not the case. There have been days when I am only interested in eating whatever I want and not counting the cost. This is a constant reminder to me to get back to the basics. Whenever I get off track — I have to put my eye back on the ball. When I follow the plan it works. When I don’t follow the plan, it still works — just not in my favor.

The Ugly.

Now for the ugly. I previously mentioned that I had been monitoring my EMFs with a Trifield 100XE EMF Gauss Meter that a friend had given me. You can read more in my September Journal where I shared that we were surrounded by dangerous levels of electro magnetic fields. We made the move to our new apartment and the readings are at safe levels. We have been in our new apartment for a week. And as of yet there is no positive change in my health situations. I am still losing sleep and my other health issues are not resolving. This has been very discouraging to me. But it has helped me re-evaluate my motivation for losing weight.

I have wanted two things:

  1. Eat the foods I love
  2. And still lose weight

And, I have been able to do that very thing. I have lost 35 pounds since January. However, I have not put my health at the top priority. In a recent survey of my readers, I discovered that everyone wanted to lose weight to improve their health. For me, health was not even a consideration in a diet. For me it is all about looking better and feeling better about myself.

This was convicting for me, and I see now how some of the choices I have been making in my diet could actually be harming my health — even though I am eating a fully organic diet. This is partially due to the extra energy I have been expending at the gym and in my job (which requires about 5 miles of walking a shift). I have not been getting the protein I need, nor the balance of nutrients.

And I have recently gone off all my supplements at my husbands advice. He reminds me continually (and I write about it all the time) that FOOD is God’s primary means to nourish and heal the body. And it makes sense. Every supplement has some kind of foreign substance that the body does not recognize as food. That means it has to figure out what to do with it — flush it, filter it, or store it.

But the body knows exactly what to do with nourishing, life-giving food. So for now I am learning how to eat to nourish.

This gives me even greater reason to carefully evaluate everything that enters my body. I need to be sure it is getting enough of the 90 or so nutrients it needs to thrive. This is not an easy feat, but I am working it out. I am also spending time in prayer for wisdom and healing.

So here is my chart for the month of October:
