Authoritative Answers For Health: Conclusion

This section will conclude the study of where we should (or shouldn’t) go for authoritative answers for our health.

What we have covered so far:

  • Introduction: Highest Authority
    • I Corinthians 3:19a: “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.”
    • All truth must be based on the Word of God to be reliable.
  • Part One, Section A: Is There No God in America?
    • Ahaziah sought the false gods of Ekron to seek answers to his health
    • God punished him
  • Part One, Section B: The False Gods of America
    • Profile of an American Idol
    • A question of prayer
  • Part One, Section C: Praying in Vain
    • Ezekiel 14:1-3
    • Praying with idols in the heart
  • Part Two: Seek Ye First God or the Physician?
    • Righteous Asa’s diseased feet
    • Asa seeks the physicians instead of God
  • Conclusion:

Consider the following verses:

Proverbs 14:12: There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Psalms 1:1-2: How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, not sit in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

Hebrews 11:6: …and without faith, it is impossible to please Him.

Jeremiah 17:5: Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord.

You may say, I trust the Lord, I really do.

Okay! Are you willing to test that? Here are some practical questions to ask yourselves.

  1. Is God’s Word the first place you go to find the cause of your illness or disease? Do you search the Scriptures, seeking God first, to hear what God has to say about your malady?
  2. When presented with a health doctrine of this world, do you first go to God’s word to see if it is true? Do you question it or readily accept it as your own health doctrine just because that is what everyone else believes or because it sounds right to you?

Col. 2:8 – “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”

Acts 17:11 – “Now these were more noble-minded…for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.”

1 Thess 5:21 – “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.”

Personally, I am not the kind of person who accepts information at face value. I like to see proof from an accurate and reliable source. There are times when my loving husband will share something with me that I just can’t accept as true. He is the same towards me. We often say to each other in a loving way, “Prove it!”

Anytime we hear a new health teaching, or a physician shares a new idea, we need to have the mind set of, “prove it!”

And our accurate reliable source must be God’s Word. It is the only absolutely trust-worthy health book that exists.

There are many popular health doctrines available today, and many of these doctrines claim to be based on God’s Word, others do not. All must be tested – including everything written on this blog. Don’t take the word of a human when the Word of the Creator has been given.

Consider these examples:

There are health doctrines that claim that God has ordained a vegetarian diet – according to the Scriptures. Is this true? The answers are in God’s Word.

There are health doctrines that teach that all alcohol must be avoided. Does this mesh with the Holy Word of God?

There are health doctrines that advocate milk, or meat, or cheese, or eggs, or bread, or sugar, or whatever be avoided. Do these mesh with Scripture?

How about the idea that alcoholism in a disease? Or that homosexuality is a safe health practice and/or genetic? Or that diabetes is genetic? Or asthma? How do these ideas hold up to Scripture?

Can the food we purchase at the supermarket be considered food, biblically speaking?

The truth value of the above statements will not be addressed at this point, some perhaps will never be addressed. The purpose of presenting these questions is to help the reader begin to evaluate all truth claims through the lens of Scripture first.

If our understanding of the Scripture is correct (as God meant it), then the science or doctrines of men must agree with the doctrine of the all-knowing God.
