Our last Biblical Health Study post discussed the mechanics of poor sleep. We noted that during the waking hours, the amount of toxins in the blood increases while the amount of oxygen decreases. This is a normal process. However, when the body stores excessive toxins or has excessively low levels of oxygen, the body can not enter into a state of restorative sleep.
The Solution
The two step solution is intuitive: decrease the amount of wastes in the blood and increase the amount of oxygen during the waking hours.
You can decrease toxins in your bloodstream in several ways:
- Eat only the calories your body needs
- Limit your mealtime to 2-3 times a day
- Don’t snack between meals
- Fast on a regular basis
- Eliminate processed foods from your diet
- Eat only organic, whole foods
- Drink only clean, healthy water
- Do not eat a large meal before bedtime
You can increase the oxygen in your blood during the daytime in these ways:
- Get moderate exercise
- Learn proper breathing methods
When we practice habitual moderate exercise and maintain proper eating habits, it increases our oxygen levels and decreases the toxins in our bloodstream so that our blood chemistry will be closer to normal levels. When this occurs, we will have less catching up to do at night while we are sleeping. Therefore our blood chemistry will normalize earlier in the night so we can quickly reach a state of restorative sleep. The obvious result is waking up refreshed and energized, with clear thinking.
Healthy blood is the key to bringing health to our bodies, even during sleep. When the balance of oxygen and waste products are normal and the blood chemistry balanced, we will achieve that deep rest we so desire during the night. The results:
- We get the rest we need each night
- Our energy levels will be improved
- Our aging process will slow
- And our general quality of health will be higher
The life of the flesh is in the blood: this important principle is the foundation of Reformed Health. Our next post in this series will conclude Principle #3: Healthy Blood Through Rest. And then we will begin Principle #4: Healthy Blood Through Environment.
