The Best and Healthiest Start Up (or Home) Business of 2016

russia-95311_1280Ordinarily, Reformed Health does not set out to promote entrepreneurship. However, today we make an exception because it fits in with our Biblical Health Study. We have been looking at ways to get exercise naturally — without having to fabricate it in the gym.

So far we have shared:

In the latest post in this series I promised that I would share a business idea that would keep you moving and save millions of lives. I know it seems like a steep promise — but I fully believe in it. Anyone with the drive or determination could start this business with a little effort and research. In fact, there are several business opportunities in this one idea — depending on your interest. Or be like McDonalds and own every facet of the business from production to installation. So here it is:

The greatest (and healthiest) business to start in 2016 is selling and installing standing desks to other businesses, particularly those businesses which require their employees to sit 8 hours a day.

Here are the reasons why I believe this would be a lucrative and viable business:

  1. There is a great need. Research shows that sitting 8 hours a day causes obesity, illness, and death. Read more here.
  2. Employers benefit from healthy employees. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “reports that productivity losses linked to absenteeism cost employers $225.8 billion annually in the United States.” [1] If you could show businesses the amount of money they could save by having their employees healthy, they would happily buy your product or service (i.e. standing desks).
  3. There is an opportunity for a big margin for profit. This would take some research and development, but once you understood the market, you could set your own price. Find a good desk (or build your own), sell it at a fair price, offer installation, and companies will be ordering multiple products to fill the demand of their company. If it is a growing company, the sales will continue coming in.
  4. You’ll be moving. This is what this post was about. Finding a business that gets you out of your chair. You’ll be meeting with clients, sampling products, or even building your own. Yes, there will be some computer time required — but if you are not using your own product (a standing desk) — you’ll never be able to sell one.
  5. You’ll be able to cash in on the “green” movement by helping people live healthy.
  6. You’ll be honoring the 2nd greatest commandment: to love your neighbor as your self. There are millions of people around the nation (and world) who are suffering because their company doesn’t even know how they are putting their employees at risk.

I am sure there are many other benefits to this home business — but I think I have shared enough to inspire the right person. Is that you?

If so, here are some standing desk options to get you started on your research.
