What could be better than being paid to get the exercise you need?Ā Finding a job or career that provides you with daily exercise and movement couldĀ save you a trip to the gym — and it could save your life.

As we have been studying in our Biblical Health Study, desk jobs are an invention of the modern times. In times past, people have incorporated exercise into their daily living routines. They did not have to manufacture exercise in the gym. (And if the gym is the only thing that works for your situation, there is nothing wrong with that.) If you recall, however, Dr. James Levine of the Mayo clinic says that going to the gym a couple times a week is not enough to counter the devastating effects of sitting for four or more hours a day.

Read about 28 life alternating risks from sitting too much.

My husband recently started a desk job. Not only does he have to deal with fussy customers over the phone, he has to sit for eight hours a day.Ā He would much rather being doing something that keeps him active and moving.

Thankfully, he is switching to part-time soon. In addition, he is looking for alternate work. His very life and health are at risk from his job. The risks from sitting too long are so grave — that to not try and change his situationĀ could be a violation of the 6th commandment: thou shall not kill.

If you too are sitting at a desk for four or more hours a day, the simplest way to solve the problem would beĀ to request that your employerĀ provide you with a standing desk.

Let them know your life is at stake. Remind your employer that if you get sick, they will loseĀ productivity. If a standing deskĀ is not an option, seriously consider changing jobs. Find a company that understands the value of healthy living and is willing to allow or provide a standing desk.

Here are a fewĀ to consider:
