Progress Report on Weight Loss and Health for November

November Progress ReportI ordinarily share my weight loss journal the first of each new month, but I’m doing things a little different for November. And I am a little late in checking in.

Due to some health issues (which I have written about), I have stopped trying to lose weight. All my effort for counting calories left my body deficient in some important nutrients. I am still tracking my weight and calories, but it is NOT my focus. My focus is NUTRITION.

If you thought counting calories was daunting, try tracking nutrition. It is like a full time job. But I am having some great wins.

As you may remember, we recently moved to a new apartment due to extremely high electromagnetic fields (EMFs). I discovered the high EMFs after developing a lump in my breast and suffering a relentless case of insomnia. Evidence shows that EMFs can cause or exacerbate both conditions.

Our new apartment has much lower, safe readings. I expected that immediately upon moving I would see a significant reversal in my symptoms. Unfortunately that was not the case. After some research, I learned that it takes awhile for the body to reset after EMF exposure. Some ways to help reset the body include:

I would have loved to try the Infrared Mat, but settled for the copper bracelet. My DiL had an extra one for me to try. I was also able to spend several hours at the beach walking around with bare feet in the sunshine (grounding). It was a wonderful and beautiful way to spend part of my Thanksgiving holiday.

Eliminated Supplements.

And I have also made some significant changes in my diet. I know this will seem counterintuitive to most people, but the first thing I did was STOP TAKING ALL MY SUPPLEMENTS!

I am giving my body a chance to heal itself using only the foods God has provided. I am forced to make healthy choices because I am focusing on getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals from the foods I eat. I am learning so much about the wonderful foods God has provided.

My husband Tom, the founder of Reformed Health, has been living without supplements for over a decade. When he has taken them from time to time at my suggestion, they have always caused unpleasant results in his body. Since I have made the switch, I cannot believe the results I am seeing in my digestive system.

Improved Digestion.

I have been struggling with a sluggish bowel and constipation for most of my adult life. This started as a teenager due to bulimia (bingeing and purging). In fact, I honestly thought I would never be able to be regular again. But I was wrong.

Since I have started eating to achieve the recommended levels of vitamins and minerals from my diet alone, I have been almost as regular as a clock’s tick. Of course I am also walking regularly, which helps for sure. It is like my body finally just clicked.

And I am so thankful — because I realize that two components necessary for healing is good digestion and good sleep.

Digestion is necessary because it is how the nutrients get into the cellular level of your tissue to bring healing. Sleep is necessary because it is the time that your body eliminates toxins and regenerates itself, storing up energy for the next day.

Sleeping Through the Night and More.

And I am finally getting some good sleep again. When you lie awake night after night — or wake up every 2 hours and struggle to fall back asleep — the frustration mounts quickly. Thankfully, this is something I am leaving behind. Yes, I need to continue striving for improvements, but as I write this post, I have had over a week of good sleep. One night, I slept all night without waking up until 7 am. What a joy and a relief.

AND — the lump in my breast is shrinking (as well as the swelling in my pink finger).

I do plan to write more about my journey back to good health and will keep you all updated.

Ultimately, the credit for any recovery goes to God, for He has directed me through this whole process. I have had to get back to the basic principles that I constantly write about here at Reformed Health. In fact, I have had to go deeper than I thought I was willing. My husband has made recommendations in my diet for years, and I have refused. But through this ordeal I have come to realize that the recommendations he has made are exactly what I needed to get the proper nutrition my body needs. I will share some of those recommendations at another time.

If there is one thing you can take home today, it is this: God truly has a plan for your health and wellness: His principles work.

Thanks for keeping up!

P.S. I have gained some weight during this process. But I don’t care. My health can never be measured by a number on a scale! But I do expect to find the perfect balance so I can maintain a healthy weight!
