Wild Planet’s Sustainably Pole & Line Caught Wild Albacore Tuna may be one of the safest tunas on the market.
Last week we shared the testimony of a false diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis which was nothing more than mercury poisoning due to toxic tuna. Read about it here. White or albacore tuna can be very high in mercury content — 3 times higher than its lighter counter part. In addition, the larger the fish grows, the higher the amount of mercury. The increasing levels of industrial wastes pouring into the sea, according to Dr. mercola, increases the risks of toxicity in fish as well.
A third reason white tuna may be higher in toxicity is because it might not be tuna at all. By design, certain animals (including fish) are created to process toxins differently. We will talk about this extensively in upcoming posts. God makes a distinction between edible and inedible animals in Leviticus chapter 11, calling the inedible “unclean” and the edible “clean.” It is interesting to note that science has discovered that unclean animals process toxins differently than the clean. In fact, by design, “unclean” animals act as the “garbage disposals” and “water filters” of the world. Often the flesh of such animals is contaminated because it has been doing what it was designed to do: filter toxins out of its environment. Unfortunately, this may affect the white tuna that you buy at the grocery store. Why? Because testing has found that 59% of all white tuna is not tuna at all, but a fish called “escolar.” And it has been found that escolar is often confused with an “unclean” fish that is designed to filter the water, not be eaten.
There are many dangers associated with mercury poisoning. And many of these symptoms mimic other diseases like M.S. The neurological symptoms of mercury poisoning include:
- Numbness or pain in certain parts of your skin
- Uncontrollable shaking or tremors
- Inability to walk well
- Blindness and double vision
- Memory problems
- Seizures and death
If you are a tuna lover, all is not lost. There is safe alternative: Wild Planet Wild Albacore Tuna. It is the only tuna we use — and the flavor parallels the line-caught tuna my uncle used to catch. In fact, I just had to open a can because it sounded so good. I added some jalepeno, onion, tomato, and a dollop of sour cream — and I am eating it as I write this post.
I was first introduced to Wild Planet Tuna while shopping at Costco. I accepted a sample as I was shopping, but didn’t buy it then because it was not on my list. However, I was impressed with the flavor and even more impressed by the quality.
On the labelling, they claim, “You’ve never tasted tuna like this before!” The company hand cuts and packs premium tuna steaks that come from smaller albacore tuna. They select smaller fish to keep the product safer for the end user, knowing it will not be high in mercury like a larger tuna.
They do not add water or oil to this pole and line caught tuna, which creates its own juice and retains all the natural omega 3 oils. Consumers are encouraged to not drain the juice because it contains much nutrition.
Each 5 ounce can boasts:
- 2000 mg of EPA and DHA omega 3 fatty acids
- 32.5 grams of protein
- 225 calories
- 8.75 grams of fat
In addition, there are only two ingredients: albacore tuna and sea salt. The fish is sustainably pole and line caught in the North Pacific and Coastal New Zealand. But there is more.
The can has an easy pull top opener and a BPA-free lining in both can and lid.
If you are looking for a safe tuna that over delivers on quality, flavor, and safety, try Wild Planet’s Sustainably Pole and Line Caught Tuna. I wish I could direct you to a source online, but I can’t find it at a fair price. Wild Planet does have products for sale at the Thrive Membership site where organic groceries are always on sale, but I couldn’t find this product.
Amazon also carries Wild Planet products, but the prices were not comparable to Costco, where I pay about $15.00 for 6 – 5 ounce cans. As of this writing, Amazon charges just over $20.00 for the same product. But if you don’t already have a Costco membership, the price is probably comparable.
