The Power of The Memory Tree

There is power in a name – even with trees.  A name helps you identify the appearance and learn about the qualities a plant offers.

And there is one tree that has more names than a person can count on their fingers and toes.

Some people say the Memory Tree – aka the Moringa — has over 100 different names —  depending on the country they are grown and the attributes that are important to the one naming the tree. I’ll share some of the common names of Moringa in a minute, but first, I want to give you the scientific name of Moringa:

 

The Scientific Name of Moringa

 

The Scientific Name of Moringa is Moringa Oleifera.

The genus is Moringa and stands alone in the family of Moringaceae. The species name is shortened to M. oleifera. The botanical name of Moringa is Moringa oleifera.

But this “miracle plant” is know by some common names for Moringa that have no root in science.

Here Are a Few of the Common Names for Moringa:

  • Drumstick Tree — because it grows giant edible pods called drumsticks
  • Miracle Tree — because it can heal and treat many diseases and ailments known to man
  • God’s Tree — because almost the whole tree is edible and can provide nourishment to the human race
  • Ben Tree — because the seeds can produce an oil that is used for cooking and healing
  • Horseradish Tree — because the therapeutic roots taste a lot like horseradish
  • Tree of Life — because it can provide basic nutrition for humans in times of survival
  • Memory Tree — because it can aid the neurological functions of the brain that help memory and cognition

Whether you choose to use the scientific name for Moringa or one of the common names for Moringa, you cannot deny that this tree has a reputation for being a powerful superfood. I prefer the name Memory Tree because that is how I was first introduced to the powerful properties of the Moringa.
