It’s Christmas morning.
Hours have been spent shopping for the perfect gift.
Presents have been wrapped just so and stashed under the tree.
Today gifts will be open by eager recipients.
Some gifts will be received with joy.
Some with ambivalence.
Some with scorn.
Tomorrow
(or even today)
The lines of Walmart will be
Out the door with people returning
Their gifts for something they “really” want.
Ah, Christmas.
What if there were a better gift?
A gift you couldn’t find in any of your favorite stores.
A gift that you could never wrap or unwrap.
A gift that you could never return,
You’d never want to return.
Such a gift was once
Given.
God Himself wrapped the gift.
God Himself was both gift and giver.
God wrapped Himself in the flesh of a tiny babe just so
He could offer us something beautiful: eternal life.
What a sweet mystery!
God became flesh.
You can try to unwrap the gift
But the mystery can never be fully understood.
Some will receive it with joy.
Some with ambivalence.
Some with scorn.
Those who receive Him with Joy
Will never want to return Him.
They will only want more.
More of His beauty.
More of Him.
Ah, Christmas!
Want your best gift ever?
He is what you “really” want.
