I never thought I would earn money shopping organic. In fact, I have shared before how I have cried over the cost of an organic cucumber. You can read more about that here.
But over the last few days I have actually earned $26 buying many of the organic products I already use (without coupons). Including:
- Organic Tomatoes
- Organic Strawberries
- Kevita Organic Master Brew Kombucha
- Kevita Sparkling Organic Probiotic drink
- 7th Generation Dish Detergent
- 7th Generation Laundry Detergent
- Organic Ice Cream
And I have my dear daughter in law, Katrina, to thank (she has a food blog with some fun recipes you can check out here). I was recently visiting Katrina to help out with the grand kids for a week and she told me about the fun app Ibotta. If you are not using it, you are throwing money down the drain.
What Is Ibotta?
Ibotta “is a new Android and iPhone app that allows you to earn money by purchasing participating items. You can earn this money in addition to using manufacturer and store coupons. And the best part: You don’t even need your phone while you are shopping!! All the work is done once you get home!” [1]
When Katrina first told me about Ibotta I was a little skeptical — and it seemed like a lot of work. But I was wrong. It is actually fun — and I think I have earned about $13 an hour just for shopping.
Many of the products I would have bought anyway.
How Much Can You Earn?
I have not found a limit to the money you can earn on Ibotta — so long as you follow their instructions to claim the rebates they offer.
I earned my first $10 just for signing up with Katrina’s referral code. But I needed to cash in my first rebate before I could collect that — and Ibotta doesn’t pay out until you have at least $20 in your account. But that didn’t take me long.
[If you want to earn $10 with Ibotta, use this referral code when you sign up: nxpcsie — just remember to sign up for your first rebate within the first couple of days.]
When I got home I went through my husband’s receipts and scanned what I could. Then I made a shopping list based on things I needed and the rebates offered. When I got home, I scanned the products and took a picture of my receipt and my account was already up to $26.
How Do I Get My Money from Ibotta?
Ibotta gives several options for cashing in on the money rewards.
- Paypal
- Venmo
- Gift Cards to the Following
- Walmart
- Sephora
- iTunes
- Cabela’s
- Express
- Regal Group
- Starbucks
- Amazon.com
- Best Buy
What Items Earn Money?
Ibotta offers a range of items that can earn rebates. Some products are generic. For example, they may offer a rebate for any brand of eggs, bread, tomatoes, or strawberries (organic or not). Organic products are not the only items available on Ibotta — they offer rebates for a big range of name brand products which include organic brands.
And Ibotta constantly adds new rebates and products to their app so you can keep finding items that you love to use everyday.
The Ibotta app is versatile, you can search by store or by product.
What Stores Can I Shop?
Two favorite stores on Ibotta are WholeFoods and Fresh Market. But Ibotta also has a list of other stores including the following (thankfully many carry organic products).
- Walmart
- Bi-lo
- Publix
- Ingles
- Harris Teeter
- Lowes
- Sam’s Club
- Costco
- Food Lion
- Dollar General
- Dollar Tree
- And more
In addition, the following non food stores have rebates as well:
- Old Navy
- Banana Republic
- Best Buy
- Kohl’s
- Macy’s
- GNC
- Vitamin World
- Groupon
- Jet
- and so much more
A Few Tips.
Here are some important tips before you start scanning your product barcodes on Ibotta.
- Read the fine print. Size matters. If the bag of chips needs to be 9.5 ounces, 9 ounces won’t do. The bar codes tell all.
- Some stores share the same rebate offers, others don’t. So be sure to check before you purchase.
- Don’t pay more for an item just to get the rebate. Be diligent. You are trying to earn money not spend it.
- Update the app regularly as new offers come up all the time.
- Use the scanner feature while in the store. It will give you instant feedback if the item is eligible for a rebate.
- Have fun.
Get the App.
You can’t enjoy all the savings unless you get the app. You can download it on Android or iPhone.
If you want to begin with $10 in your account be sure to use the following referral code when you sign up: nxpcsie
And to make it even better — when you refer your friends — you can earn an additional $5 per friend. That is unlimited earning potential right there.
How to Get Started.
- Download the app. (Go to Google Play or Apple App Store)
- Register with the referral code: nxpcsie to earn $10.
- Search for rebates.
- Buy the foods you already use.
- Complete your first rebate within a few days (so your $10 counts).
- Invite your friends.
- Earn your first $20.
- Withdraw your cash.
- Or choose a gift card.

This is so cool! I’ll have to look into it and see if it’s available in Canada. Thanks for the tip
Nicole | The Professional Mom Project
I hope it is available in Canada. Now you have me curious. Let me know what you find out!
I tried Ibotta. I never could remember to scan the receipts. 🙁 I love free money though, and should probably try again!
I have been scanning the items as I shop and taking the photo of the receipt while I’m still in the store. This saves me time — and then I don’t have time to forget (which I probably would).
I’m going to look into this! Can’t beat the savings and I love your tip not to pay more just to get the rebate! I can see myself doing that – haha!
The struggle is real. Thanks for sharing.
This is so smart! I am not sure if it is available in Greece though! I will check!
I just downloaded this the other day. I honestly haven’t found any rebates that I actually use, but I’m hoping if I buy according to the rebates, it will help me make healthier choices. Now, if I can’t just make it to the store…
I have never heard of this, but it sounds great, especially since you have a lot of options of where you can purchase those items. Thanks!
This is very cool! I had not heard about this app, so I am going to check it out…. Thank you for sharing this very useful info.!! Pinned 🙂
Awesome, Angela. Thanks for sharing and pinning!
