Nourishing Traditions and My Favorite Cookbooks

[FTC Disclosure: The following story is based on my experience. Plus, I have an affiliate relationship with Amazon. If you order one of my favorite cookbooks like Nourishing Traditions from a link on this page, I will earn a commission. And that will help me keep writing about health from a biblical perspective. Thank you.]

I have two favorite cookbooks. The first one is the Joy of Cooking

The second is the politically incorrect cookbook by Sallon Fallon called Nourishing Traditions. However, the book is more than just recipes. It’s actually more like an ancient guide to eating food that nourishes the body. Consequently, it flies in the face of the mainstream dietary model.

Nourishing Traditions

Nourishing Traditions is a classic.

Plus, it is well-researched and based on the teachings of Weston A. Price. Price was a dentist who asked why certain people had beautiful smiles and teeth while others did not. As a result, He searched many cultures and people groups for answers. He discovered the key was in the diet.

If you don’t have this book yet, you’ll find it is a treasure to own.  It’s a must read for those seeking to understand what a healthy diet really looks like.

Find out why Nourishing Traditions is shaking up the world and changing lives.

What does Amazon say about Nourishing Traditions?

Nourishing traditions is a “well-researched, thought-provoking guide to traditional foods contains a startling message: Animal fats and cholesterol are not villains but vital factors in the diet, necessary for normal growth, proper function of the brain and nervous system, protection from disease and optimum energy levels. The author dispels the myths of the current low-fat fad in this practical, entertaining guide to a can-do diet that is both nutritious and delicious.”

The book will tell you:

  1. Why your body needs old fashioned animal fats [I thought fat was bad???]

  1. Why butter is a health food [YAY!]

  1. How high-cholesterol diets promote good health [High cholesterol diets are good???]

  1. Learn how saturated fats protect the heart [Wait. What?]

  1. How rich sauces help you digest and assimilate your food [Who doesn’t love sauces?]

  1. Why grains and legumes need special preparation to provide optimum benefits [I thought grains were a big no-no!]

  1. About enzyme-enhanced food and beverages that can provide increased energy and vitality [Fermented drinks anyone?]

  1. Why high-fiber, low-fat diets can cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies [I thought low-fat was good.]

Topics in Nourishing Traditions include the health benefits of traditional fats and oils (including butter and coconut oil); dangers of vegetarianism; problems with modern soy foods; health benefits of sauces and gravies; proper preparation of whole grain products; pros and cons of milk consumption; easy-to-prepare enzyme enriched condiments and beverages; and appropriate diets for babies and children.

Also, the book includes a plethora of fermented veggie recipes. Additionally, I’ve included a recipe of my own for 5-Minute Fermented Broccoli Kraut here
