Dark Chocolate Honey Mints from Trader Joe’s (Just 3 Ingredients)

Dark Chocolate Honey Mints (Just 3 Ingredients)
Honey Mints.

It is rare that I share a product that is not organic. But Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Honey Mints get high marks on my health meter.

I recently visited a health food store that was giving away some candy. The cashier said the mints were not very good. I asked her why she didn’t like them. Her reason was because they were made of honey.

I love honey — in fact it is a God approved sweetener. So I gave the treat a try. It was delicious, reminding me of a Peppermint Patty. Unfortunately, I did not learn the brand of the candy, nor was the store going carry them. But when I learned that Trader Joe’s was carrying Dark Chocolate Honey Mints with “Just Three Ingredients,” I had to give them a try — even though they were not organic.

One bite reminded me of those delicious mints from the health food store. So tasty. But more important — they are HEALTHY. Why? Because of the ingredients. Yes, organic would be better. But these little gems are worth every penny in taste and nutrition.

The Three Ingredients.

According to the package Dark Chocolate Honey Mints from Trader Joe’s are

Made using

  • Ingredient Number One.

pure clover honey from century old traditions that have been handed down from one generation to the next. The honey is creamed by adding a special seed honey and …

  • Ingredient Number Two.

a hint of peppermint oil to create a smooth and refreshing center, which is then dipped in

  • Ingredient Number Three.

a rich, dark chocolate.

What’s even better, the rich, dark chocolate is actually made from chocolate liquor.

Chocolate Liquor.

Don’t worry, chocolate liquor is not alcoholic. Rather it is chocolate in its purest form — a chocolatey paste made from pure cocoa beans — a perfect combination of cocoa powder and cocoa butter that has never been separated. When it is heated it becomes velvety like melted chocolate.

Interestingly, the chocolate liquor has no sweetener added. You’d never be able to tell by biting into the sweet treat. But if you just take a small bite of the chocolate only, it tastes like unsweetened baking chocolate — only silkier.

A 7 ounce package of these beauties are available at Trader Joe’s for $3.99 — which includes about 18 pieces. Three pieces, which is enough to satisfy the sweet tooth, boasts 140 calories — which helps keeps the calories in check. And at $3.99 they are irresistible (in moderation of course).

Where You Can Find Them.

If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s nearby but want to get a hold of these delightfully healthy sweets — Amazon carries them (but at a much higher cost than in-store).

And if organic is important to you, Amazon also carries a similar product that is made with Raw Honey called Heavenly Organics Mint Chocolate Honey Patties.

And finally, if you want a mint made of the scientifically acclaimed Manuka Honey — Amazon carries that also. Dark Chocolate Manuka Honey Mint.

And if you want to try your hand at making your own mints, try my recipe Chocolate Therapy. It infuses essential oils and honey with cocoa powder and coconut oil. Not quite Dark Chocolate Honey Mints, but still another healthy, tasty treat.

  1. These sound really good! I wish we had a Trader Joe’s nearby. I have seen posts with so many things that I would like to try from there. The next time I travel to a place that has one I will be sure to check out this treat!
