Pickled Green Cabbage and How to Improve Gut Health

Good News about Your Gut Health

Do you love pickled green cabbage?

A magical chemical reaction happens when you pour salt into a head of cabbage.

Picked Green Cabbage

  1. The salt mixes with the cabbage juice inside and begins to ferment making pickled green cabbage
  2. The pickled green cabbage phytonutrients get “supercharged” by the acidity and turn into cholesterol sweepers
  3. After 3 days you get a very powerful microbiome machine that can help
    • Protect your digestive tract
    • Regulate bowel movements
    • Prevent both diarrhea and constipation

This life-saving information was still common knowledge just a few generations ago.

Today it’s all but lost.

I first heard about this forgotten cure in “The Lost Book of Remedies,” an old tome that tries to preserve the most powerful remedies of our forefathers. Within the pages are easily accessible natural solutions for common ailments including

    • Pain relief
    • Snake bites
    • Infections

How to Improve Gut Health

It’s written for common folk with no plant knowledge and has lots of colored pictures for each medicinal plant, weed, or tree in North America, to easily identify them.

Even a small child could use it!

There are hundreds of  lost cures all around you. And someday, you might need them.

October Weight Loss Journal

October Weight Loss Journal: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

This month has been the first month that I have not finished lower than I started. On October 1st, I weighed in at 149 and on October 31st, I weighed in at 149.8. There were some 147’s in the mix as well as one 152.

But I am not discouraged, nor have I stopped trying to take off the last five pounds of my weight. So today I am going to share the good, the bad, and the ugly about this month in weight loss.

Honey Mints.

It is rare that I share a product that is not organic. But Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Honey Mints get high marks on my health meter.

I recently visited a health food store that was giving away some candy. The cashier said the mints were not very good. I asked her why she didn’t like them. Her reason was because they were made of honey.

I love honey — in fact it is a God approved sweetener. So I gave the treat a try. It was delicious, reminding me of a Peppermint Patty. Unfortunately, I did not learn the brand of the candy, nor was the store going carry them. But when I learned that Trader Joe’s was carrying Dark Chocolate Honey Mints with “Just Three Ingredients,” I had to give them a try — even though they were not organic.

One bite reminded me of Continue reading “Dark Chocolate Honey Mints from Trader Joe’s (Just 3 Ingredients)”

Gremlins and Glutathione

Crazy Thing My Gremlins Taught Me About Antioxidants

Gremlins and Stalkers.

When weird things happen, people like to blame the gremlins. My gremlins have names. Whenever something really weird happens, something disappears or goes missing, strange gifts arrive, or any other event that I can’t explain, I jestingly blame my gremlins. Here’s why:

In my life time I have had more than one “stalker.” While sparing the details, one such gremlin attempted to damage my car.

Oil Filters.

I used to keep bottles of car oil under my carport on some shelves. One day as I was about to  Continue reading “Crazy Thing My Gremlins Taught Me About Antioxidants”

September Weight Loss Journal with Commentary (down 37.4 pounds total)

September Weight Loss ChartAt first glance, my weight loss chart for September is deceptive, so I added a red line to show the downward slope.

And I have no Twitter posts to share (except one) because my new job takes a chunk of my day away from writing, and I have opted out of tweeting.

Tummy Troubles.

On September 2 my weight dropped down to an extraordinary low. This was due to the stomach flu or possibly caffeine withdraw. Read more: Why I Had to Quit Drinking Coffee.  I was up much of the night with unpleasant symptoms of which I will spare you the details. Huge Reason Organic Oranges Are Better than Conventional

Huge Reason Organic Oranges Are Better than ConventionalGrowing up in a small town, where the nearest big city was an hour drive, I learned several things about growing conventional oranges. On the commute to the “big city” we passed by thousands and thousands of orange trees, and I was able to observe some interesting practices.

Lessons Learned.

#1 I watched as the orange groves were sprayed with insecticides. I can still recall the unpleasant smell, and now realize that it was Continue reading “Huge Reason Organic Oranges Are Better than Conventional”

Free Trainer with $10 Membership at Planet Fitness — A Review

Weight LiftingThe Biggest Loser.

While visiting my daughter-in-law recently, I was introduced to The Biggest Loser television program. At first I resisted her pleas to watch the program, but after one episode I found myself addicted. I was amazed at the transformations the contestants displayed after such a short period of time. The winner started out looking like a sumo wrestler and finished slim and trim. He looked like a completely different person.

Planet Fitness.

On the program they advertised Planet Fitness as their preferred gym.

Today I am writing a basic review and overview of their fitness center.

Reluctant to Join a Gym.

I have been reluctant to join a gym in the past, mostly because it seems an unnecessary expense. In fact, I recently wrote a whole series on how to get exercise naturally without joining a gym. I summed that up in (Almost) Everything You Need to Know About Exercise and the Bible.

In that series I discussed the possibility of getting paid to exercise by Continue reading “Free Trainer with $10 Membership at Planet Fitness — A Review”

August 2016 Weight Loss Journal

August Weight Loss Journal with Commentary (down 34.4 pounds total)

August 2016 Weight Loss JournalThis month I finally broke through the 155 mark, with the potential of getting into the 140’s. The 140’s! I can hardly believe it. I started this #weightlossjourney at 185 pounds. I wanted to be transparent about the process because I want to write a book with a step by step plan to help others do the same thing. But first I had to prove to myself that it would really work.

This is the same way I lost weight about five years earlier. The only problem is I did not include a maintenance plan into my diet. This time I will! I don’t ever want to be 185 pounds again.

The unique approach I took to lose weight — is to Continue reading “August Weight Loss Journal with Commentary (down 34.4 pounds total)”
